She started having trouble with the right leg this time. She couldn't use her sewing machine because the tumor had grown back.

Doc Ostrow said that he would have to go back and cut out as much as he could of the tumor. (I didn't get to ask how much he cut out this time, and if it could grow back. My dad didn't let me get a question in edgewise.)

They did a whole bunch of testing the week before, so I had a really crazy week that week, trying to do both my jobs and helping my dad manage my mom's appointments.

My dad rented a wheelchair van so he could take her to appointments as she can't use her legs anymore and get in the car. But apparently the first time, my dad didn't secure my mom's wheelchair when he took her to an appointment. (I was sick and didn't go with them that first time.) I can just picture my mom trying to alert my dad to this fact, while he's driving along and can't hear her. There's got to be a comedy skit in there somewhere.

So I would hook and strap the wheelchair down, then belt her in. (An advantage of having ridden the bus, I know how to do all that from watching the bus driver.)

I've also been trying to get my mom to sign up for DART handi-rides. They have a 'thing' where the subscriber of the service, if they have an helper, the helper rides free.

So we had to be at the hospital about 7 am on the day of the surgery. They took her off for surgery at a little after nine. The surgery didn't take as long this time. Ostrow called for my dad and me a little after 11 am. But they didn't get a room for her in the "Neuroscience Center" until after 7 pm. They had wait for someone to be discharged. Yeah.

Plus I know that there was a group of black church women (who were with someone) who was also going into the neuro-care unit. (He had a brain tumor and they were in the waiting room before my dad and I got in there.) So we didn't get home until after 10 pm.

I wanted to ask Ostrow if the tumor would grow back again, how much it had grown, but I couldn't get a question in edge-wise with my dad's bad hearing. I'll try to remember to make a list of questions, and drop it off at his office.

I also can't remember right now who I told at the hospital, "My dad isn't ignoring you, he just can't hear you."

A man in the waiting room was telling the group he was with, about his experience with morphine. He had a couple heart attacks and had to have surgery. He started having paranoid delusions that the staff was out to kill him. If they took blood, he had to touch it to make sure it was really his blood. He had a friend who was retired military who would come by and pretend to stand guard (apparently that helped some.) He said he would beg his friend not to fall asleep because "they will kill you first, then kill me."

Once a male nurse was attempting to get him to go to sleep, and he told the guy, "I'm a customer here, you can't treat me like this!" and the nurse told him to "shut and go to sleep!"

He was with a younger woman (daughter, niece, I wasn't sure, but she seem to be a relative) and she mentioned how she and a young man (also with the group later) were always doing their best to be super nice to the staff, because of the way heart-attack guy had been acting, and she said that the staff was always bringing them snacks and drinks.

He said that they took him off the morphine a.s.a.p. I don't blame them.

The group with NoMorphineGuy was a pretty big group, and they actually brought pillows and blankets with them. They started out a small group, but more kept trickling in. One lady was saying she should have hired a pet sitter, while another lady said that her mother was dropping by to take her dogs out. A young couple with this group had brought their laptop for entertainment.

I was wishing I had hired a pet sitter too. Another reason I want to know if we are doing this again in four years time. Definitely hire a pet sitter next time.

I did a few small drawings, I should post those later.

They changed the seating in the waiting room. There are mostly chairs there now. And the few couches they had are sort of small and not very comfy. Of course, if you are really sleepy, you can still fall asleep on them. I had worked at Kohl's the night before.

They used to have big soft comfy couches. There used to be a small dining table with some chairs but that is gone as well.

The BlackChurchLadies would hold a 'rousing' praying a couple times. Pretty interesting to watch. I've often thought it's almost a 'shamanistic' way of praying.

And you know I've worked in customer service, when I answered the phone in the waiting room with "Methodist waiting room." That phone was supposed to be for outbound calls, but I suspect that they called on that phone because the other phone was occupied. Or they were looking for someone who had called them earlier. The family they were looking for had already moved from the waiting room. At least that's what the volunteer told them. I can't believe I didn't eavesdrop on what else she said to them. I might have missed a story opportunity there!

On the 27th, I worked a card account, then laid down for a little nap, because I had to go into Kohl's that evening. Well, about 30 minutes into my nap, a woman from the hospital called. They were going to transfer my mom to the new Methodist Rehabilitation Hospital that afternoon at 5 pm. The rehab place had a spot open, so that's why they transferred her so quickly.

I guess she also didn't take as long to recover this time as last time.

So we had to hurry over to the hospital and get my mom's stuff out of her closet in her room. Then we had to wait for the ambulance service. They came pretty close to time. My mom asked if I could ride in the ambulance with her, and the guy said I would have to ride in front. (My mom watches way too much TV. lol!) I ended up riding with my dad.

Needless to say, when I got home Friday, I was pretty tired. Thankfully when I called in at work, one of the supervisors told me she was going to call someone else in. So I didn't have to go in at all. Bad bit; my paycheck is going suck next week.

What I like about the new rehab place: It's new and shiny and built in 2008.

What I don't like: It's 15 miles from where we live, and you have to go by freeway, and that darned freeway ramp is too short. It's freaked me out a few times.

At Kohl's our hours have been reduced because we have gone to the e-signs. So a supervisor was asking me about POS, and I'm really not sure about it. My days are so packed right now, trying to do both jobs and visit my mom. I only typed this up because something woke me up early.

I need to go out to do more card accounts. Later. (I also need to get coffee first.)

Bugeyedmonster2http://www.blogger.com/profile/06338913227978409461noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6784935645579818998.post-74270468644448270182010-10-08T20:21:00.001-07:002010-10-08T20:26:47.262-07:00Cool deal at Dick Blick(And why does that sound like it could be the title for a porn film?)

If you like Derwent Inktense pencils or you've been wanting to try them check out this listing.
http://www.dickblick.com/products/derwent-inktense-pencils/

The pack of 24 is only $26.32, plus it comes with a four pack of Winsor & Newton brushes. They are the smaller brushes, but they're not eeny little ones only a miniaturist could use. There was a size 1 rigger, a short flat, and two rounds, a 1 and a 5. Plus the Inktense set came with a small 4 1/2 by 6 inch sketchbook attached. All that for about $30.00!

*gives high sqee*

Sorry, it's just that I've been wanting the 24 set of Inktense pencils and they've been going for almost $20 on eBay. So I figured at that price I might as well buy from Dick Blick (porn star in a previous life?) and pay a little extra for shipping to get the free gift. I didn't expect to get a sketchbook as well.

Anyway if y'all know any art supply addicts pass the word. I'm thinking of ordering another set for a friend's daughter. I got her a set of 24 watercolor pencils for 5.88 (eBay) and a set of 24 Graphitint (Michael's clearance; was 54.99, priced down to 7.99)

Now I don't know what to do with my gently used Inktense pencils. Maybe sell them on Etsy for shipping cost only?

Actually Etsy won't let you do that, you have to charge for what it would cost to ship, and put shipping down as 'free'.

Found that out from someone who sells off her scrap watercolor paper. (I think her shop does graphics and scrap booking printed stuff.) She ends up with these rectangular scraps after cutting down her 22x30 sheets so she 'sells' them for shipping only on Etsy.

They actually sell too. A lot faster than other supplies.

Anyway if y'all know any other arty types let them know about the Inktense pencils in case they want some.

Edit: The person selling the watercolor cutting blanks is Orange Art Cat. Orange Art Cat does art photography and prints on the watercolor paper.
http://www.etsy.com/shop/orangecatartBugeyedmonster2http://www.blogger.com/profile/06338913227978409461noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6784935645579818998.post-8681060475551467972010-10-02T20:27:00.000-07:002010-10-02T20:29:24.155-07:00Paper Makeup Stamps Release Party

If you're into stamping, this place has a lot of neat stuff.

(^_^)/
BEM

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgy9RZi9agPRiKIHIHGVBk3x-4xZ0Sc0VlLPUGT9tiiJLpWt4Lh4_LGQ8Yvlcy8zhD6DEWypukTsSzJzrFgKmZYBknQAjzbdsbOwxi_jS-XpBPtIrTFGK7NMdsHMPiUjyPMhmYr51lTtLI/s400/october+rp+button.jpgBugeyedmonster2http://www.blogger.com/profile/06338913227978409461noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6784935645579818998.post-57007086097410665242010-09-17T15:22:00.000-07:002010-09-17T15:22:05.308-07:00The Sketchbook Project: 2011 » Art House Co-op | We build art projects and communitiesThe Sketchbook Project: 2011 » Art House Co-op | We build art projects and communities

I'm trying to decide which theme I would like....Bugeyedmonster2http://www.blogger.com/profile/06338913227978409461noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6784935645579818998.post-81188426354568838902010-09-14T14:48:00.000-07:002010-09-14T14:49:08.206-07:00Stamp sets sale for Ethan's RodeoAlicia is selling stamp sets to help raise money for neuroblastoma research, specifically NB Alliance. She scanned menswear, then remarked to me that none of her sale signs changed. I asked her if she had changed the date to tomorrow's date. R said... "Oh... s***!" Thankfully she only had a small portion of mens so it wasn't too bad.

Today when we started I reminded her about changing the date on the walkies we use at work.

And....

drumroll...

She left up the expired sale signs on what she scanned today. I asked P (store supervisor) if he heard me remind her. He said he did. Good. I reminded her so that this in no way my fault that the newbie screwed up again.

Oh and P and R had this little exchange...

R, going past P: "How are you today, B."
P was busy looking down at her RF and didn't reply. So R asks her again.
P looks up and responds. "I wouldn't know how B is doing."
R; "Why wouldn't you know how you are doing?"
P, "I'm not B."
R "Well, then who are you today?"
P, "Same person everyday; I'm P."
R, "Oh...."

I find that with R, you have to break stuff down as into as simple bits as possible. Showing her works sometimes. And a *lot* of times she gives you this blank look when you are explaining something to her. She'll say "Okay" when you ask her if she got it. Then later you find out she didn't understand what you were trying to tell her. If you don't understand me, let me know, dagnabbit!

J (our new supervisor) said whatever she's on, he wants some. lol!

The darned thing is that one of the supervisors really likes her and when we've complained about R having problems doing the job, she will get after us and remind us that Ad Set is a team and we have to help each other. But we spend an hour or more fixing her mistakes.

Sigh... I'm frustrated... I want a new job.Bugeyedmonster2http://www.blogger.com/profile/06338913227978409461noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6784935645579818998.post-25340649747262784722010-09-11T15:27:00.000-07:002010-09-11T15:28:57.370-07:00Wow dogCool dog! It's just too hard to do both my job and the super's as well. Plus I'm not getting paid any extra to do that job. I am beginning to feel disgruntled and taken advantage of. I started doing the extra work with the anticipation that there would be a new supervisor soon. It's been six months and no new supervisor. I feel like the company has taken advantage of my good willingness to help out in a time of need.

So I've given up attempting to do it.

I mean how hard can it be to find a part time supervisor in this economy? I have the impression that they are not really trying to find a supervisor.

It's a part time position at a major retail company. Perfect for watercoloring. But way beyond my budget.

Hmmm... now how would I make a set like this? I have a small VanGogh watercolor set. I'd need a strip of leather wide enough and long enough. I have never tried sewing on a buckle. Perhaps just a tie. Two buttons and a string to go around them?

How would one do the inside pockets? (As I don't have much sewing skill.) I love how one of the brushes was just cut to fit. Hmmm...maybe a wide elastic would be better at holding the pencil and brushes in place. And a small plastic palette would be lighter than the ceramic one. I like the eeny water bottle/flask near the watercolor pan box.Bugeyedmonster2http://www.blogger.com/profile/06338913227978409461noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6784935645579818998.post-22971416016389906032010-07-24T13:13:00.001-07:002010-07-24T13:13:23.358-07:00This is too funny

And now I keep hearing that line from Blackadder about groups of sinewy tough men roaming the Welsh countryside terrorizing folks with their close harmony singing.

But you should go watch this. So I went and left reviews on art materials I had used. Reviews are good for folks whom are just starting art and want to try to decide what to buy.

I was trying to find information on table top easels. I have found enough information that if I can find pre-1940s easels on eBay I should buy them.

I was trying to decide between a Winsor and Newton Arun table easel, and a Jullian Plein Air table easel. I'm not finding enough reviews to help me decide which one. Sigh...

Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Both these easels are on eBay. The one deciding factor might be that the W&N is new, while the Jullian is an estate sale find. (So it's probably older and therefore might be better made.)Bugeyedmonster2http://www.blogger.com/profile/06338913227978409461noreply@blogger.com0
